Two funding routes: **Fully funded (Power Purchase Agreement).** An energy investor pays for the system, owns it and maintains it. The client buys the electricity generated on their own roof at a rate below their current supplier. No capital outlay and no borrowing. Under the funding partner's published terms: no initial maintenance, refurbishment or roof upgrade costs; the system is monitored, maintained and insured for the full term at no cost to the client; the price is fixed and increases annually at the rate of the Retail Price Index; and rights and title to the system pass to the client at the end of the term. Terms typically run 10 to 25 years. **Outright purchase.** The client funds and owns the system, keeping the whole saving. The funding partner publishes a typical payback of 5 to 8 years, depending on usage and tariff. Asset finance is a middle route: ownership from the outset with the cost spread. Businesses typically reduce electricity bills by up to 30%. In food and drink, chemical and pharmaceutical, the partner publishes up to 25%. The roof is measured remotely and generation modelled against actual consumption. No site visit, no cost, no obligation. 2. **Survey, design and funding.** A full survey confirms roof construction, condition, shading and supply. Grid connection application handled. Rooftop solar on commercial buildings in England is generally permitted development; the previous 1MW cap was removed in December 2023. Scotland and Wales have their own rules; listed buildings and conservation areas are exceptions. 3. **Installation.** Accredited UK engineers, working from outside the building, scheduled around operations.
